Advice

After reviewing and practicing the parents of a friendly letter, we wrote some letters of advice to 1st Graders. We wanted to give them some suggestions to help them when they get to 2nd grade. So much thought was put into these letters. I didn't get pictures of each one, but they are hanging in the hallway outside our door. If you get a chance, stop by and read all of them!

Mrs. West was nice enough to let us come in and read our letters to her class. It was a great way for the 1st graders to ask some questions about 2nd grade! It won't be too much longer!!

100th Day

Last Tuesday was the 100th Day of School. We did several fun activities throughout the day to celebrate!

We played a game called Roll to 100. Each player took turns rolling the dice. They would color in that many boxes on their 100 Board. The first player to reach 100 was the winner!

Then we tried building things with 100 Legos and putting together 100 piece puzzles! The puzzles were harder than we thought!! While the kids were working on these projects, I called small groups over to my table so we could make our 100th Day Trail Mix.

We had 10 different snacks. Each child picked 10 of each item to put in their bag. They could not WAIT to get those snacks in their little tummies!

Recipes

We spent some time learning so many different forms of writing. We've practiced writing notes, friendly letters, and recipes. In order to write a recipe, we needed to learn how to read and FOLLOW a recipe. Sooo.... why not bake a cake?! Mrs. Kellett is definitely not much of a baker, but even I can follow a strict recipe on the back of a box! I'm glad I have so many friends to help me.

We laid out our ingredients first. We wanted to make sure we didn't forget anything.

Luke helped me spray the pan. He seemed to enjoy this a little too much! :)

My helpers -- Alex, Cody, and Johanna helped crack eggs. Angus helped measure and pour the oil. And Lauren added the most important part -- the cake mix!!

 And drumroll please......

Our final product!! It was verrryyy yummy!!

Birthdays and Book Swaps

We had fun celebrating our one January birthday for Katie Beth! She loved knowing January was just HER month! We didn't get to celebrate Johanna's birthday in December so we let her join in on the fun! We didn't want her to think we forgot her! I know these sweet girls had wonderful birthdays!!

We also had our Book Swap! The kids LOVE having the chance to trade their old books for different ones. I love how excited they get about new books!!
