Pirate Day

Arggghhh! Friday was Pirate Day and we had a BLAST. (By the way, those hats you see are our Countdown Crowns from our End of the Year Countdown. Only 7 more days!!)

We started the day with some paint...

And created these adorable little pirates!

We also played a few games of Sharks and Minnows. Here are my minnows getting ready...

And the BIG, BAD shark!!

We also love Minute to Win It challenges. The object of the game is to hook as many pretzels as you can, using ONLY your pirate hook. It was harder than it seemed!

Yesterday, for our End of the Year Countdown we got this..

The kids loved writing compliments to each other so they asked if we could do it one more day. Of course I didn't mind. On Friday, they had the chance to read the compliments others wrote them. I wish you could have been in the room to see their faces and hear their excitement. It's always nice to read nice things about you!

  1. I love the pirate day activities! I was thinking of having a pirate theme this year with my 2nd graders. Are the smile files you displayed for the compliments? Did they make them for this event or have them all year? Thanks for sharing your great ideas!

  2. Hi Melanie! Thank you!! We had a lot of fun with Pirate Day! :) The Smile Files we JUST made for the countdown. They taped them to the back of their chair and we kept them up for a few days. Whenever we had a couple free minutes, I'd let them write a compliment. It surprised me how much they really enjoyed this. I'd like to do something similiar on a bulletin board in my classroom next year that DOES stay up all year long.
