Children's Book Week

We had fun celebrating Children's Book Week! It was nice having a day to wear PJs.. just roll outta bed and go!

Today we got a chance to dress up as our favorite book character. I love how creative these outfits are!!

I told Luke he might want to lay off the PB cookies he told me he ate at Subway last night.

Lauren (above) is Junie B. Jones. Kellyanne (below) is May (her and Junie B. do NOT get along. They are always getting each other in trouble). During our Spelling Test today, "May" complained about "Junie B" cheating off her Spelling Test. (Not really cheating.. just playing the part!) Those silly girls!

Maraina was Stellaluna. Her dress has LIGHTS on it! I was AMAZED.

Of course I had to get a picture with Pinkalicious since I was Goldilicious.

I absolutely love this picture! Miss Lewis - Pinkalicious, Me - Goldilicious, Miss Smith - Purplicious
Johanna told me my "legs creeped her out." She was confused because she thought I painted them gold. Once she realized they were just tights, I was "beautiful." Thanks Miss Lewis for such a wonderful idea!!

New Classroom Laws?

In Social Studies, we tried passing some new laws. We learned how each law starts as a bill and has to go through a process to be turned into a law. I pretended I was the President, our table helpers were the Senate, and everyone else was the House of Representatives. Each person wrote their proposed bill and we read them to the Senate. They voted and as long as over half voted "yes" it moved on to the House of Reps. Again, if more than half voted yes, it passed and came to me. I had the final say!

2 New Classroom Laws :

Some were very disappointed when I vetoed this one. Good try Bailey!

Biography Project

It's been awhile since I've updated, but trust me.. we've been busy!! After returning from Christmas Break, we made the switch from fiction to nonfiction. We began our nonfiction unit with biographies. We spent all last week researching information about Martin Luther King, Jr. After reading numerous books, articles, and looking at websites, we discovered we learned many new and interesting facts!

This week, the kids had an opportunity to do their OWN research. I was very impressed with their hard work!!

Day 1 - We talked about how before you can begin research, you need to have a clear focus. In order to do this, you should brainstorm questions you have about your person. Each group sat down and discussed some questions they wanted to find out about their famous person.

Day 2 - The students used the computer to search for some information about their person. They used their questions from yesterday to help guide them. This was probably their most favorite part!

Day 3 - More research!! This time we used books about our famous person!

Day 4 - Final project!! The kids loved sharing the information they found. Please ask your child who their famous person was and what they found out!
